Guide :Home : & Replacement Cartridge

After consulting with Moen re: 2 knob Tub "cartridge" replacement, 12 yrs old, cold water not running, I did what I was told, after receiving the replacement cartridge 1248. (warranty replacement) The existing cartridge is "counter-sunk", ie 3 inches at least below the porcelain top deck of the tub. This installation includes an extension piece. The Cartridge and other "works" are inside an approx1 - 1/2 Brass Valve, which make a simple extraction of the original cartridge nearly impossible. I was instructed by Moen to tighten a long screw into the "old" cartridge leaving enough to connect to to pull the cartridge straight up and out. NOT POSSIBLE. this was described as a less than 1 hour job for the "beginner". I know have water running through to my lower level, cant stop the flow. Damage is catastrophic at this point (yes the water was off). I have now read that if the "cartridge" wont release from the original location, the the Valve must be replaced. I can't imagine how that can be done without destroying my tub. There is no access. Period. What is moen thinking of. I want the damage repaired, along with the "warranted" products.
